CIRQUE DU SOLEIL PRAISES THE ATHLETES

Montreal, March 03, 2009

Gymnix International 2009 will mark the first Artistic Gymnastics World Cup to be held on Quebec soil. Cirque du Soleil is proud to support this high-calibre competition, which will take place at Montreal's Claude-Robillard sports complex from March 5 to 8.

This year, over 50 internationally ranked athletes will be taking part in the Gymnix International World Cup event. Cirque du Soleil has a particular fondness and respect for gymnastics, and the athletes and coaches who are involved in the sport. For many years, Cirque du Soleil has been recruiting gymnasts at the end of their competitive career who developed their skills in places like Club Gymnix. Cirque du Soleil takes its hat off to all participating athletes.

Cirque du Soleil will be performing a 15-minute acrobatic act to highlight the closing of the World Cup on Sunday, March 8. "The World Cup event gives us a great showcase to promote who we are, where we create and train, and what we do," explains Bernard Petiot, Vice-President of Casting and Performance at Cirque du Soleil. "It's also a chance to make athletes and coaches aware of the employment opportunities we offer athletes as they come to the end of their sporting careers."

The World Cup event will cap the 18th annual International Gymnix competition taking place this year. Alongside the international-calibre athletes, more than 600 young gymnasts from all levels and many different countries will be on hand for the only competition of its kind in North America.

Since its founding 36 years ago, Club Gymnix has been devoted to training young athletes. It has enjoyed an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally, and received numerous honours. Club Gymnix shares its passion for performance with Cirque du Soleil.
