FOR THE FIRST TIME IN CANADA THE SHOW VAREKAI AVAILABLE ON DVD Montreal, QC – November 30, 2003 The television production "Cirque du Soleil Presents Varekai" is now available for sale on DVD in Canada. Co-produced by Serpent Films and Productions Conte III, a subsidiary of Cirque du Soleil Images, the program presents the live show Varekai, which was filmed specially for high-definition television in September 2002 during its run in Toronto. "We wanted this DVD to add to the experience of those who have seen the show," said Vincent Gagné, Vice-President of Cirque du Soleil Images. "For those who have never had the opportunity to see Varekai, the DVD will take them into a one-of-a-kind universe." Innovative techniques used for this production bring a whole new dimension to Varekai. Special lighting and 14 cameras capture the very essence of the extraordinary Cirque du Soleil artists and their performances. In addition to the show, the two-disc DVD set features acts filmed from multiple points of view, comments from artists, interviews, the documentary entitled "The Making of an Angel" (about the creation of Varekai), and excerpts from the Emmy and Gemini Award-winning television series "Cirque du Soleil Fire Within." Varekai is the story of a young man who is parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest. In this kaleidoscopic world, populated by fantastical creatures, the young man sets off on an extraordinary adventure where anything is possible. The word Varekai (pronounced vair-ehk-eye) means "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies-the universal wanderers. Directed by Dominic Champagne, Varekai is a tribute to the circus arts and to the nomadic spirit of circus artists, driven to surpass themselves and to achieve the impossible.
