Fact sheets

  • The tour travels with over 1000 tons of equipment in 71 trailers.

  • The touring staff carries around over 400 pieces of luggage and 60 bicycles.

  • The infrastructure of Cirque du Soleil is a self-contained community, with its own power sources, offices, kitchen and school.

  • It takes 8 days to set up the site and all the infrastructures and it takes 3 days to completely tear it down.

  • On a 2-show day, the kitchen serves close to 300 meals a day.

  • 21 different countries are represented among the cast (18 cast only) and crew (Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ukraine and United States).

  • A total of 175 people travel with the show (cast, crew & official accompanying members).

  • A total of 127 tour employees (including 56 performers).

  • During an engagement, an approximately 150 local people are hired for different types of jobs (ticket takers, ushers, janitors, receptionist...)

  • Approximately 100 hotel rooms and a few apartments are required to lodge tour members in every city.

  • Varekai had its world-premiere in Montreal on April 24, 2002.

  • Since then the tour has visited 45 cities in 10 different countries. (December 2008)

  • Since April 2002, Varekai has been performed over 2,450 times. (December 2008)

  • Varekai celebrated its 1,000th show in December of 2004 in Dallas, TX, its 1,500th in May of 2006 in Seattle, WA and its 2,000th show in October of 2007 in Perth, Australia. Its 2,500th show will be celebrated in Sevilla in February 2009.

  • 2 sets of identical twins performs in the show in 2 different acts – the Santos twins, Pedro and Ramon are in the Icarian Games and the Atherton twins, Andrew and Kevin are in Aerial Straps.

  • School is 3 teachers and 10 students from Grade 1 to 11.

  • The show has over 200 costumes, 200 pairs of shoes, and 100 wigs and hats…
