Nathalie Gagné has been creating makeup designs for Cirque du Soleil for many years. She says the power of makeup goes far beyond surface appearances. It expresses a person's mood, personality and character. "We always start with the characters," she says. "I need to think about who they are. What is their feeling? What we are supposed to feel about them when we look in their eyes? We explore every possibility in the character and create a makeup to fit each possibility to make sure that the one we choose will work."
