There is a consensus within Cirque du Soleil that in addition to the dialogue we conduct with our partners there is also a need to establish a responsible procurement policy with our suppliers. In practice, this means instituting a set of measures to ensure that the merchandise we sell has been manufactured in a manner that respects both people and the environment. This is a particularly sensitive topic since a certain proportion of our merchandise is produced in countries at risk.
In 2008, the company adopted a new procurement policy aiming at standardizing practices and providing a clear framework for all of procurement decisions. This policy includes a section that sets out responsible procurement principles for suppliers. As Cirque du Soleil has dealings with a growing number of suppliers, the procurement policy defines the basic environmental and workers’ rights principles they are expected to follow.
The company takes an approach based on dialogue and cooperation when applying this policy. The policy should be implemented in a spirit of commitment to continuous improvement from both Cirque du Soleil and its suppliers.
