André Boileau

INTERVIEW

Your biggest artistic achievement in your pre-Cirque career:

That would have to be when I was 6 years old and got a part in Puccini’s “La Bohème".

Please tell us about your artistic background previous to joining Cirque:

I did a lot of studio work and performed in several musicals, including “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" directed by René-Richard Cyr.

When did you join Cirque du Soleil?

I joined in July 2003.

What was your first contact with the organization? What was the context?

My friend, who was the bandleader for Saltimbanco at the time, introduced me to Cirque du Soleil.

What kind of an experience was your audition and/or training and/or workshop?

I had to do many auditions before I got the job… it took me 7 years before I landed the role of the singer in Quidam!

How did your integration go in Montreal and in the show?

From Montreal I was sent to Osaka, Japan… big culture shock!

How does being part of a Cirque du Soleil show allow you to express yourself in your discipline?

As a singer, it is quite nice to express yourself in an invented language. It’s really freeing as it allows you to express your every mood.

What do you like the most about being part of Cirque du Soleil?

I love being the link between the visual and the emotional.

Why would you recommend an artist to join Cirque?

You get to experience different cultures and be part of a wonderful family

How is life on tour?

Life on tour can be lonely at times but, at the end of the day, it’s so rewarding.

Anything else you would like to share with us?

Be patient… it will happen.
