Bonnie Story has worked with many of the best known choreographers and directors in the entertainment business. She has choreographed many commercials and films, including all of Disney Channel's smash hit High School Musical series, directed by Kenny Ortega, and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography for her work on High School Musical. She has performed in many music videos, including Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. She also co-choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
Bonnie attended Julliard and the School of American Ballet, and was a Ballet West and William F. Christensen scholarship recipient at the University of Utah. She worked as a principal dancer in several ballet companies, including Ballet West, before moving to Los Angeles to study jazz, modern dance and acting.
One of the first people she met in California was Viva ELVIS director Vincent Paterson, and she has worked with him frequently ever since. “Vincent and I have an outstanding creative relationship. Sometimes we finish each other’s sentences. Our individual artistic perspectives blend seamlessly.”
Bonnie’s most recent credits include choreography for the feature film America's Greatest Pastime, Oreskaband, American Mall, commercial for Columbus Zoo, an episode of Suite Life of Zack and Cody and numerous Disney Channel segments featuring Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), the Muppets and the Sugar Bowl Half Time show in New Orleans. Her projects with Vincent Paterson include taking part in the creation of the choreography for Play Zone 2006, a stage production featuring some of the biggest recording artists in Japan. She also loves creating pieces for contemporary dance companies.
She is a highly sought after guest teacher who teaches and choreographs for many institutions and has taught her special brand of jazz at the University of Utah’s Ballet Department.
For Viva ELVIS Bonnie Story is not only working with dancers, but also with acrobats. “It’s been amazing,” she says. “I don’t get into the ins and outs of acrobatics with them, but I am able to bring elements of choreography to their numbers. The bottom line is always: ‘What does this have to do with Elvis?’ and in some way, or some form, everything we do has to connect to him. It’s the basis of everything we do.”
