DRALION BY CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY 2 JUNE

PREMIERES IN CANBERRA 23 OCTOBER 2008
Opposite the National Library

The Australian Capital is set to be dazzled for the second time as Cirque du Soleil returns to Canberra with the spectacular new show Dralion, proudly presented by Optus.

Never before seen in Australia, Dralion has thrilled more than 7 million people around the world. Dralion will premiere on Thursday 23 October under the trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) which will once again be sited opposite the National Library in Canberra.

Dralion is the fifth Cirque du Soleil show to tour Australia and the second show to visit the Nation’s Capital after the very successful Varekai season in 2006. “Canberra locals truly enjoyed having the Cirque du Soleil Grand Chapiteau in their own backyard during our last visit. Advance ticket sales for Dralion so far tell us that they are very excited that we’re coming back”, commented Cirque du Soleil Vice-President of Marketing for Asia-Pacific, Milan Rokic.

Tickets for Dralion go on sale on Monday 2 June for a genuinely limited season in Canberra, the second stop after Sydney on the nation-wide tour.

Created and directed by Guy Caron, Dralion is the fusion of ancient Chinese circus traditions and the avant-garde approach of Cirque du Soleil . The name Dralion is drawn from its two main symbols, the dragon, representing the East, and the lion, representing the West. The cast features a total of 73 artists from 19 countries - including a house troupe of 48 Chinese performers. The show has been touring the world since April 1999 and it continues to have great success wherever it performs.

Dralion invites the audience on an extraordinary journey through its inspirational, mythical and unforgettable world. Dralion pays tribute to the four elements that maintain the natural order - air, water, fire and earth and it is very much inspired by mankind’s quest for harmony with nature. This amazing production will define new heights of acrobatic creativity, culminating in unique and exciting acts that have never been seen before in Australia.

Cirque du Soleil has implemented a new online revolutionary ticketing system for the Dralion tour, allowing users to purchase their own seats through a 3-D interface. So far, this new ticketing system has proven to be extremely popular with over 90% of tickets purchased directly online.
