FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sydney, May 23 2008

CIRQUE DU SOLEIL BEGINS ITS SITE CONSTRUCTION IN SYDNEY!

ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES ADDED
On Sale Monday 26 May 2008

The countdown to Cirque du Soleil ’s return to Sydney has begun and the company will soon start to transform its new home away from home at the Entertainment Quarter into a self-sufficient village. With the beginning of the set up process also comes the news that Dralion will extend its season with another three weeks of shows. Dralion will be presented under the blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau (Big Top) at The Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park, from Wednesday 16 July 2008.

A 500m fence will be erected on Monday 26 May around the Showring at the Entertainment Quarter as work will begin on preparing the ground for an all-weather surface to be laid. Over the next few weeks, 15,000m 2 of geo-textile fabric will be spread over the entire site to protect the ground from the 5,300 tonnes of road metal that will be installed.

Bitumen will cover 8,500 m 2 of the site, in readiness for the marking of infrastructure and the arrival of 750 tonnes of equipment required to present Dralion to Sydney audiences. At the conclusion of the Sydney season, all materials will be recycled and the Entertainment Quarter will be restored to its original condition.

Due to high public demand, Cirque du Soleil will release an additional three weeks of performances for Dralion in Sydney (August 27 to September 14, 2008). Tickets to the additional performances will be available as of Monday 26 May at www.cirquedusoleil.com.

Dralion is the fusion of ancient Chinese circus tradition and the avant-garde approach of Cirque du Soleil. The show's name is drawn from its two main symbols: the dragon, representing the East, and the lion, representing the West. Dralion derives much of its inspiration from Eastern philosophy with its perpetual quest for harmony between humankind and nature.
