Cirque du SoleilHet begon allemaal in Baie-Saint-Paul, een dorpje vlak bij Quebec City in Canada. Daar trok begin jaren '80 een groep kleurrijke personages door de straten, op stelten, jonglerend, dansend, vuurspuwend en musicerend. Zij vormden 'Les Échassiers de Baie-Saint-Paul' (de steltenlopers van Baie-Saint-Paul), een straattheatergezelschap opgericht door Gilles Ste-Croix. Toen al waren de mensen in het dorp erg onder de indruk van de jonge artiesten, waaronder een zekere Guy Laliberté, de latere oprichter en CEO van Cirque du Soleil.
A specialist in concept design, production illustration, costume illustration and art direction, Henry Fong has worked in cinema, television and video game development. After studying illustration and photography, he took up classical animation and design, and went on to study classical painting. In film and television, Henry’s credits as concept artist, concept designer include projects such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2013), Pacific Rim (2013), The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013), and Immortals (2011). Concept artist and art director on Hong Kong feature film White Vengeance (2011), he was key costume illustrator for Warm Bodies (2013) and the TV miniseries The Phantom (2009). He also served as visual development artist and storyboard artist on the IMAX feature Journey to Mecca (2009). In 2008, he was character designer and costume illustrator for Death Race, and was concept designer for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. In the video game world, Henry Fong’s name is associated with the adventure game Bot Colony and Artificial Mind and Movement’s Iron Man as well as a number of Ubisoft titles including Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, Star Wars: Lethal Alliance and Far Cry Instincts. In the music realm, Henry was responsible for the art direction and package design of Billy Talent’s albums 666 (Warner Music) and Billy Talent II (Atlantic Records). He was also the illustrator for See Spot Run’s Gonna Getcha album in 2007. Henry Fong has picked up a number of awards including the 2004 Ben Wicks Award for best illustration, the 1998 Gwynyth Young Memorial Award for best layout design, the 1997 Nelvana Scholarship Award for best layout design, and the 1991 Barbara Camm Visual Arts Award for best illustration. Prior to his work on Michael Jackson ONE, Henry lent his talents to the Cirque du Soleil's Special Events Division.
