Australia’s famous love affair with Cirque du Soleil continues with the national premiere season of OVO, the show which takes audiences into the colorful and energetic world of insects, premiered last night in Brisbane at a star studded red carpet event.

While the stars of OVO are crickets, fleas, butterflies, a cheeky firefly, flying scarab beetles, spiders, a blue fly and a lovesick  ladybug, stars on the red carpet were Lions, Firebirds, Wallabies, Roars, Broncos and a raft of stars from music, fashion, food, theatre and media.

Brisbane Lions players Jonathan Brown, Simon Black, Jamie Charman, Daniel Merrett, Matthew Leuenberger and Daniel Rich joined the Brisbane Roars, Thomas Brioch, Erik Paartalu, Matt Smith and Shane Steffanatto; Firebirds Laura Geitz and Romelda Aiken, along with Queensland and Australian stars James Horwill, Scott Prince, Nate Myles, Greg Bird, Tim Horan, Haley Bateup, Katie Noonan and a full Big Top of fans of the magic of Cirque for a night of pure wonder.

Following the Brisbane season, the tour will move on to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.

Since its world premiere in 2009, OVO has visited more than 15 cities in Canada, United States and Mexico, delighting over 2 million spectators.

OVO, meaning “egg” in Portuguese, is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

The cast of OVO features 54 performing artists from 16 countries specializing in many acrobatic acts. One highlight of the show is the stunning Flying Act in which a group of scarab beetles soar high above the stage. This breathtaking act combines many circus disciplines: banquine, Russian swing and swinging chair.
