On top of its 2009 initial two-year multi-million dollar investment Cirque du Soleil today announced a 2011 touring arena show for Russia and a breakthrough 2012 partnership with the Kremlin Palace Theatre in Moscow.

Cirque du Soleil has unveiled today a plan to further establish its brand presence in Russia.

In late 2008 Cirque du Soleil partnered with George and Craig Cohon to create Cirque du Soleil Rus,a Russian company having exclusive rights to the Russian and Ukraine territory. George is the Founder of McDonald’s in Canada and Russia and Craig built Coca-Cola’s first operations in Russia in the early 1990s. Cirque du Soleil Rus is a Russian Company, led by Russians for Russians.

It has successfully brought two large-scale big top touring shows to Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and Kazan. It has sold over 510,000 tickets and established a secure online e-ticketing system (Outbox) throughout the country.

Cirque du Soleil has already employed up to 800 people throughout the tours and has worked with 320 local suppliers. Permanent Moscow team comprises 25 Russian based employees led by General Director Natalia Romanova.

Cirque du Soleil Rus won best brand in Russia in 2009 and it continues to innovate throughout its operation.

"Two years ago we promised the Russian people that we would begin to partner with this country and bring exciting live entertainment. Together, we are demonstrating that doing business in Russia is exciting, dynamic, and commercially viable. We did not let each other down." said George Cohon, Partner and International Business Statesman.

Today Cirque du Soleil announced a further investment into Russia’s growing and exciting entertainment market.

“We have to say Thank You Russia for the amazing welcome we received in the last 2 years. It exceeded our expectations. We are extremely optimistic about the Russian market.” said Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil worldwide. “Russians are some of the world’s most sophisticated cultural citizens. The opportunities are limitless to create and provide high quality entertainment throughout Russia.

In fall 2011, Saltimbanco, a signature Cirque du Soleil touring arena show, will travel to 4 major Russian cities. Cirque du Soleil continues to develop new regions with its outstanding live performances and expand its presence in Russia.

From small and intimate special events to multi million dollar grandiose productions, we will continue to find ways to bring world class entertainment to Russians throughout the country."

As well, another innovative partnership was announced today. "We have signed a breakthrough agreement with the Kremlin Palace Theatre to bring a brand new live show. Zarkana, this extravaganza can only be shown in its totality on two stages in the world: Radio City Music Hall in New York and the Kremlin theatre in Moscow", said Craig Cohon, Vice Chairman of Cirque du Soleil Rus. "In early 2012 Zarkana, a $57 million USD spectacle, will be an entertainment happening in the city of Moscow bringing modern live entertainment to a scale not seen before."
