Cirque du Soleil

Scott Price

Composer and Musical Director

Scott Price is a graduate of the prestigious Royal Conservatory of Toronto and has been a leading figure in Quebec music, television and performing arts for many years as a composer and musical director.

He started his professional career playing keyboards in a group called Traxis and was one of the pioneers of the modern Quebec music scene of the early 80s. He later worked with singer Diane Dufresne in 1985 on her Top Secret tour. He went on to work on stage with Quebec artists such as Celine Dion, Roch Voisine, André Gagnon and Robert Charlebois.

Scott was the musical director on recordings and shows by Charles Aznavour, Petula Clark as well as many other Quebec singers, and led an orchestra of 31 musicians for Celine Dion's 2008 mega-concert on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. Scott also created the scores for many French-language television and film productions produced in Quebec, as well as the international hit comedy series Just for Laughs Gags.

Cirque du Soleil has called on Scott's services for his eclecticism and musical curiosity. His previous work in circus includes Jungu (2007) by the Imperial Acrobats of China and two productions by the Swiss circus company Salto Natale: Chamaleon (2002) and Synfunia (2008), both directed by Guy Caron, one of the pioneers of Cirque du Soleil.

Scott Price, who shared the composition with Jean-François Côté, says the Banana Shpeel score is "a bubbling mix of vaudeville, urban music and hip-hop all mixed together under the distinctive musical influence of Cirque du Soleil. My compositions are closely intertwined with the inspired choreography by Jared Grimes. Both work in symbiosis."

Scott Price was born in Montreal in 1960.
