Blue Man Productions seeks a project-based Musical Instrument Technician (MIT) to support Special Events and Marketing/PR/Publicity performances. The Musical Instrument Technician (MIT) uses a broad skill set to facilitate the maintenance
and use of various instruments. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: pitch tuning drums, setting up and maintaining drum and percussion kits, electric strings instruments, amplifiers, effect pedals and various Blue Man Group (BMG) specific PVC
instruments and stage drums. The MIT will develop a thorough understanding of all BMG invented musical instruments in order to supervise their ongoing use. Specific project-based responsibilities include loading and unloading of trucks, setting up and striking instruments, instrument tuning, trouble-shooting, minor on-site repairs, and other duties as assigned to facilitate a successful performance.
This individual should have an in-depth knowledge of a wide array of instruments and audio gear. The ideal candidate is proficient in playing drums and string instruments to complete thorough sound checks. The MIT should have a working background in technical theater and stagecraft. The MIT ensures that Blue Man Group’s values and artistic vision are understood and supported across the organization, participates in outside events and appearances, adheres to BMG’s health and safety rules and regulations, attends meetings as necessary, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
The MIT must be organized, detail oriented, have an active curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Flexibility and focus are key to success in the fast-paced environment of live performances. This is a project-based position that will require nights, weekends, and
domestic and international travel. A valid passport is required.
