Blue Man Group at Astor Place Theater, New York, is posting for the Lead Deck 1 Crew Position. The Lead Deck 1 position works an average of 35-40 hours per week, providing regular show and rehearsal coverage on the Deck 1 track as well as support for daytime work and maintenance calls. All three Deck Leads maintain a working knowledge of all three show tracks and provide coverage on the other Deck tracks as needed. Under the direction of the Props Supervisor, the Lead Deck 1 is responsible for constructing, maintaining and/or repairing all technical elements of the show under the Deck 1 jurisdiction. Strong technical theatre background is preferred.
Responsibilities include running 6-7 Deck 1 shows per week, learning the other two Deck show tracks, weekly maintenance and repairs of show props and consumables, weekly prop construction, administrative work including the coordination of show schedule with part-timers, other Leads and Supervisor, aiding in interviewing and training of part-timers, attending full company meetings, safety drills and rehearsals, and working on projects as delegated by the Props Supervisor. This position reports directly to the Props Supervisor and will receive a performance evaluation on an annual basis.

There are a couple of holiday moratoriums (week of Thanksgiving, last two weeks of December, first week of January, and a week in late March or April), as well as additional Casting and Training rehearsals 2-4 times a year, during which the Lead Deck 1 must have increased availability and flexibility in their schedules.
Deck Leads must have strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills. Carpentry skills are a big plus. Run crew experience in a fast-paced theatrical environment is strongly preferred.
This is a Full-Time hourly position with a full benefits package.  Hours and schedule vary, and will include nights, weekends, and holidays.  Flexibility is necessary.
