Cirque du Soleil is proud to return to Zurich for the first time in five years with its critically-acclaimed show Varekai, opening on September 17 th for a limited engagement under its trademark white Grand Chapiteau at the former Hardturm soccer stadium. On September 21 th a Gala-Night with celebrity guests will take place.

Varekai was conceived by Cirque du Soleil 's new generation artistic team including Writer and Director Dominic Champagne, acclaimed for The Beatles show LOVE and the sensual Zumanity, both Las Vegas stalwarts. Varekaiengages the spirit and art of the circus tradition with jaw-dropping acrobatic choreography set to beautifully-crafted original music.

About the Show

The word Varekai means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies - and this show promises to take any viewer wherever they dream.

Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary world - a world where something else is possible. A world called Varekai. From the sky falls a solitary young man and the story of Varekai begins. Parachuted into the shadows of a magical forest, a kaleidoscopic world populated by fantastical creatures, this young man sets off on an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of all possibilities, begins an inspired incantation to life rediscovered. This production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to the infinite passion of those whose quest takes them along the path that leads to Varekai.

Varekai is an impressive mix of drama and acrobatics: Stunning artistic performances, innovative music and an imaginative stage design make Varekai an incomparable experience of the senses.

Varekai is the first show of a new, creative era and a new creative Cirque du Soleil team. The production has a number of facets - from the artistic vision that was inspired by Greek mythology to the fantastic costumes of Japanese designer and Oscar winner, Eiko Ishioka. The audience can expect the most spectacular performance Cirque du Soleil has ever created.

Since its debut in April 2002 in Montreal , Varekaihas astounded over 5.5 million spectators and has been seen in over 50 cities in 12 countries on three continents. The show hit Europe in 2007.

Official sponsors of Varekai are American Express, CGI, Infiniti and Bulova.
