Vidanta Resorts announces the first anniversary of JOYÀ de Cirque du Soleil in Riviera Maya

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Vidanta Resorts celebrates the first anniversary of JOYÀ from Cirque du Soleil, a culinary and theatrical experience unique in its class in the Riviera Maya. Located in the tourist destination of Vidanta in the Riviera Maya, JOYÀ is the first resident show of Cirque du Soleil in Mexico, housed in the award-winning theater custom-made, which is the only one that has dinner and champagne during the show.

The production debuted in November 2014 as the result of a unique collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Grupo Vidanta, developer of resorts and tourist infrastructure in Mexico and Latin America. In its first year, JOYÀ has successfully attracted thousands of visitors from the region and has gained international recognition as one of the most special Cirque du Soleil experiences in the world. To date, JOYÀ has given more than 300 shows that have been sold and received excellent reviews, as well as being Cirque du Soleil's only permanent show outside of the United States.

The 600-seat theater, which provides an intimate and magnificent experience, is recognized throughout Mexico for its innovative architecture and engineering, as well as for its incorporation of Mexican art and heritage. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Riviera Maya and rooted in the richness of the local culture, the Cirque du Soleil Theater - designed and built by Grupo Vidanta - was awarded in 2015 as the Building of the Year by the leading Mexican architecture and construction magazine Works of Grupo Expansión, for being considered the most important facility built in Mexico this year.

"Vidanta is proud of the success that JOYÀ and its magnificent theater have had this first year,” comments Iván Chávez, Executive Vice President of Grupo Vidanta. "The show has had a positive impact on the Riviera Maya through the creation of jobs and the increase of tourists. We look forward to the continued growth and prestige of our partnership with Cirque du Soleil.”

JOYÀ is an innovative experience that combines gastronomy with the performing arts, involving the five senses of the audience. Based on the heritage of Mexico, JOYÀ tells the story of an alchemist and his granddaughter who embark on a transformative adventure to uncover the secrets of life.

The Mexican culture inspired the entire show, from the costumes to the design of the stage and the acts included in the production. Unlike any other Cirque du Soleil show, JOYÀ provides a culinary experience and champagne for attendees, with a themed menu and the original Moët Champagne Mercier, exclusively available at the Cirque du Soleil Theater.

"We are thrilled with the enthusiasm that has surrounded JOYÀ in the last year,” explains Yasmine Khalil of Cirque du Soleil, Executive Producer of JOYÀ. "The response has been extremely positive and our artists and technicians always want to share the JOYÀ experience with the audience in each of the presentations. Both the production and the unique stage reach the audience and offer them an unparalleled culinary experience and entertainment.”

Grupo Vidanta, together with Cirque du Soleil, celebrated the anniversary of JOYÁ on Saturday, November 21, with 600 guests, at the Vidanta Theater in the Riviera Maya. Attendees enjoyed a dinner and a JOYÀ VIP show, followed by an after party.
