Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ is celebrating 1,000 rounds of applauses for 1,000 nights

Mexico City, Thursday, November 30, 2017

Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ is the only resident show of Cirque du Soleil  outside the United States and the only one in the world that includes a dinner experience. Conceived and created by Cirque du Soleil , this extraordinary show inspired by Mexico will commemorate its 1,000th performance on November 30th.

Inspired entirely by Mexican culture, alluding to the unique connection between Canada — Cirque du Soleil ’s home country — and Mexico with the migration of the monarch butterflies, Cirque du Soleil  JOYÀ is an original multisensory experience that has captivated more than 540,000 people since its debut in 2014. Along with its 40 on-stage artists, and within the frame of its third anniversary, Cirque du Soleil  JOYÀ celebrates the great success of its first 1,000 performances.

What secrets do these Cirque du Soleil  JOYÀ performances hide?

  1. Each show serves 200 three-course dinners and 1,428 gourmet canapes.
  2. The champagne served is Mercier, produced by Moet & Chandon in France and imported to Mexico exclusively for the JOYÀ show.
  3. Each show consumes around 200 bottles of champagne.
  4. The show’s artists and technicians come from over 15 different countries, including Mexico.
  5. All the show’s music — including vocals — is performed live.
  6. Some of the artists are Olympic athletes.
  7. An artist can wear as much as seven different costumes in a single show.
  8. JOYÀ is the only Cirque du Soleil show that produces its own costumes on site.
  9. The show’s drummer, Abraham Buchanan, originally from Aguascalientes, has performed in every shows since the beginning.
  10. The artist Nobu Ando is the fastest double dutch skipper in the world.

Cirque du Soleil JOYÀ is a resident show at Vidanta’s Cirque du Soleil Theater in Riviera Maya that consists of diverse acts that allude to the history and culture of Mexico without reproducing clichés and stereotypes. From the migration of the monarch butterfly, passing through the asteroid that supposedly fell in the Yucatan peninsula 66 million years ago and caused the mass extinction of the dinosaurs, to Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, the Central Library of the UNAM, and Guillermo del Toro: Cirque du Soleil  JOYÀ continues to conquer the hearts of all its national and international attendees with performances from Tuesday to Saturday.
